Spanking

Spanking as the most accessible form of impact play: styles, positions, hand technique, the role of ritual, and how to make it good for both people.

The classic

Spanking is where most people's impact play begins and where many happily stay. It needs nothing but a hand, it offers constant physical feedback, and it carries a weight of meaning that goes far beyond the sensation. For some it is sensual; for others it is disciplinary, playful, nostalgic or a mix of all of those.

Styles of spanking

Sensual spanking is slow, warm and often part of broader touch. The goal is arousal, connection and a pleasant glow rather than intensity.

Disciplinary spanking sits inside a dynamic with rules. It may follow a lecture, a count, or a ritual of being sent to fetch a hairbrush. The structure is often more important than the force. This style is common in Daddy, Mommy and Brat dynamics, and in traditional domestic discipline relationships.

Funishment is spanking framed as punishment but intended to be enjoyed by everyone. Bratting, deliberate rule-breaking and "earning" a spanking fall here.

Negotiate which style you are going for. A sensual spanking delivered when someone wanted a stern one, or the reverse, misses the point for both people.

Positions and technique

Over the knee is the archetype and allows intimacy, control and close observation of the person being spanked. Bent over furniture gives the spanker more room and lets them use both hands. Lying face down on a bed is comfortable for long scenes. Standing with hands on a wall or held behind the back adds a feeling of exposure. Each position changes the mood, so choose deliberately.

With the hand itself:

  • Keep the hand slightly cupped for a deeper thud and flatter for more sting.
  • Stay on the fleshy lower half of the buttocks and the upper thighs. Avoid the tailbone and the lower back.
  • Warm up with light, quick strokes before adding force. A warmed bottom takes far more and enjoys it more.
  • Vary rhythm and location. Predictability dulls sensation; variation heightens it.
  • Rub, stroke and pause between sets. The contrast makes the next set land harder.
  • Watch for the shift from pink to red to dark red, and ease off before bruising unless marks are wanted.

Beyond the hand

Hairbrushes, wooden spoons, slippers, belts and purpose-made paddles all raise the intensity and change the sensation. Each has its own learning curve. Try any new implement on your own thigh first, and read the impact play safety guide before using it on another person.

Aftercare for spanking can be as simple as lotion, a cuddle and a conversation about what felt good. Many people find the aftermath of a thorough spanking as meaningful as the spanking itself.
